Daniel H. ROSEN is a founding partner of the Rhodium Group (RHG), and leads the firm’s work on China and the world economy. RHG combines policy experience, quantitative economic tools and on-the-ground research to analyze disruptive global trends. Rosen’s specific client activities include analysis of China-US policy dynamics, interpretation of Chinese economic data, and facilitation of meetings with senior Chinese officials, executives and thought leaders both inside and outside China. Rosen’s work contributes to client investment management, strategic planning and policy assessment needs.
Rosen is an Adjunct Associate Professor at Columbia University, where he has taught a graduate seminar on the Chinese economy at the School of International and Public Affairs since 2001. He is affiliated with a number of American think tanks focused on international economics, including the Peterson Institute for International Economics, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the Asia Society. He has been a visiting fellow focusing on China at the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE) since 1993. Rosen was ASPI’s Fall 2014 Jack Wadsworth Fellow and the author of ASPI’s major report on China’s economic reform program,Avoiding the Blind Alley: China’s Economic Overhaul and Its Global Implications.
Rosen writes and speaks extensively on China and other emerging economy topics. He is a frequent contributor to major print and television media and high-level speaking events (including Aspen Institute, Caixin Magazine, Bloomberg, and private client functions) on topics including China, Chinese investment flows and economic performance, and U.S.-China economic relations.
His seventh major publication, An American Open Door? Maximizing the Benefits of Chinese Direct Investment (co-authored with RHG Research Director Thilo Hanemann), was released in May 2011, and quickly became the standard reference on China’s direct investment in the United States.
From 2000 to 2001, Rosen was Senior Adviser for International Economic Policy at the White House National Economic Council and National Security Council, where he played a key role in completing China’s accession to the World Trade Organization and accompanied the President to Asia for summits and state visits. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and board member of the National Committee for U.S.-China Relations.
He was educated at the Graduate School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and at the Department of Asian Studies at the University of Texas, Austin.
